How to Draw Lisa Simpson
Learn how to
draw Lisa Simpson in this drawing lesson.

First, let's take a quick look at her proportions.

When
you look at the right picture, you can see that Lisa's head fits nicely
into this square, and that her face occupies the lower left quarter.
So to make the drawing process easier, you can first sketch in
a square and
divide it into four quarters, as it is shown on the left.
Take a ruler for this, if you like.
You can also try to draw her freehand without using a square, but your
drawing may get out of shape.
Lisa will be a bit more than twice as large as this square, so be sure
that you leave enough space on your paper below it.
How to Draw Lisa Simpson - 1. Face

Begin
with Lisa's eyes. Draw them into the upper right corner of the lower
left square-quarter. On the right side the eye should touch the border,
but on
the left side there should be a bit of space left.
Make the eyes so big that they that reach down to the middle of the
quarter.
Then add a short nose. Its line grows out of the right eye's bottom and
covers a small part of the left eye.

Draw
a straight line that starts at the eye just in front of the nose, and
touches the square's left side a bit above the bottom.
Then draw a
long curve that starts from this touching point and spans almost across
the entire
quarter. Keep it very flat, but let it touch the bottom line in the
middle. Add a small line for a smile at its end.
For this next step you can already erase the square's borders around
the face.
Then
add the small lower lip. Place it almost below the middle of the
upper lip, but just a bit towards the left. Draw a short
line for her throat going down from the lip, afterwards.
In the right quarter you can draw in her ear, and the neck-line going
down from it.
How to Draw Lisa Simpson - 2. Hair &
Details
Now the square will help us to draw in Lisa's spiky hairdo.

Start
from the left eye, and draw a spike reaching a bit out of the
square
in the front. Then add two more spikes into this quarter. The second
one should touch the square at the top (see red X).
In the next quarter there are only two spikes.
The
first spike in the last quarter also touches the square's side (see red
X, again). The last two spikes should be a bit smaller than the others.
Let the last one reach out of the square at the bottom and end below
the ear.
You can erase the entire square now, since the head's outline is
complete.
Redraw the lines where necessary afterwards.
Then there are a few small details to add.
Draw
four short and curved eyelashes on top of each eye, and two small
pupils into the
eyes. Also outline the inner border's of Lisa's ear with two short
lines
inside of the ear.
With that, Lisa's head is complete.
How to Draw Lisa Simpson - 3. Proportions

Before we continue, let's map out Lisa's body, so that we know how
large to draw it.
Take measurement of Lisa's head from the uppermost spike to the bottom
of the lower lip.
I marked this distance with a '1' in the picture.
Draw
a horizontal line with the same distance below the lower lip, and
another line with one third of this distance below the first one.
This doesn't have to be super precise, but you can use a ruler, if you
like.
How to Draw Lisa Simpson - 4. Dress

Now we can draw in Lisa's dress.
Let it reach all the way down to the first horizontal line.
At
the bottom, the dress should be as broad as the thick red line I drew
across her head. The line reaches from the spike at the front to the
back of the ear.
Draw in seven spikes along the bottom of the dress.
Also draw a line across the chest to outline the dress's top.
Let it stand out a bit at the front of her chest.
How to Draw Lisa Simpson - 5. Arms and Legs

First, erase all unnecessary lines inside the dress.
Then draw in the legs and feet, so that they reach down to the line at
the bottom.
The left foot is seen from the side, but the other one is pointing a
bit towards us and appears to be shorter for that reason.
Sketch in the arms. You can draw one of them with just one bent line,
because it is partially hidden behind the body.
Outline the other arm with two lines, and make a clear division between
upper and lower arm at the elbow.
Lisa's hands are pretty simple to draw, because you don't see any
fingers from this point of view.
Once you've drawn them in, also draw a curved line at the inner side of
the partially covered arm, opposing the elbow.
How to Draw Lisa Simpson - 6. Necklace &
Shoes

Draw a necklace consisting of small circles around Lisa's neck.
Then erase the lines which are covered by the necklace now.
In addition, draw a curved rectangle on her feet. This is for an
opening in her sandals.

Finally,
outline the small belt that keeps the sandals in place, and the soles.
Let the soles stand out beyond the heels a tiny little bit.
Now Lisa Simpson is complete.
If
you want to, you can now retrace your drawing with a black pen to get
clear lines, and then erase the pencil lines afterwards.
But be careful that you don't mess your drawing up at this stage.
