Learn how to draw Hyper Knuckles the Echidna, a strong and fierce guardian of the Chaos Emeralds.
He is a friend of Sonic the Hedgehog's.

Let's get started right away, because Knuckles doesn't like idle words.

How to Draw Hyper Knuckles - 1. Body Outline

Start drawing Knuckles with a circle for his head.
Draw a vertical and horizontal axis through the circle. These will help us later to draw in the face.

Add a long, thin torso below the head. As you can see by the red lines, the torso is a bit shorter than the circle.

Draw in the arms in this step. Give the upper arms the length of half a circle-axis from shoulder to elbow. Make the lower arms very, very short, because they are pointing forward and are shortened by the perspective.

You are ready to draw in the fists.
The lowered fist is basically just an oval with a thumb overlapping it at the side. At its top you can still see a bit of the glove's part that covers the wrist.
On the lifted fist you see much more of this wrist-cover. Wrap up the hand so that the pinkie finger is coiled into the center, and then place the thumb from outside on top of it.

Attach the legs to the torso. Make them as long as the torso from top to bottom. Draw them slightly spread and with a visible bend in the middle at the knee.

Then we begin with the shoes already. At the top Hyper Knuckles's shoes have green cylinders around the ankles. Draw two ellipses around the legs for the top of these cylinders.

Now you can complete the cylinders. Draw straight lines going down from the sides of the ellipses, and then close the shape with a curved line at the bottom.

Draw in the shoes as two large blocks with rounded edges.
Since perspective shortening is playing a role again, the shoe pointing more towards us is a bit shorter. It also has an additional line inside of it, which separates the shoe's front from the shoe's side.
When you compare the shoes to the circle, the larger shoe one is slightly longer than the circle's diameter, and the smaller one is slightly shorter.
Their size from top to bottom is about as large as half of the circle's height.

Hyper Knuckles's first outline is complete.
Now comes the fun part: drawing in the face and other details that make Knuckles unique.

How to Draw Hyper Knuckles - 2. Face

Outline the snout at the circle's bottom. Along the top it has three bulges: one large in the middle, and two small ones at the sides. Let the middle bulge reach up about a quarter of the circle's axis.

Add the eyes above the snout. Draw their pointy corners reaching a bit above the horizontal axis and let the fold between the eyes come very close to the snout.

Outline the eyelids and a fold between the eyes.

Then draw in the irises as long, thin ovals, the nose as a small oval in the snout's center, and the mouth sitting grinning at the side.

Draw two smaller ovals into the irises for pupils and a line through the middle of the opened mouth with one tooth standing out clearly.

The face is complete.
But what would an echidna be without spiky spikes?
Bald and boring.
So let's fix that right away in the next steps.

How to Draw Hyper Knuckles - 3. Spikes

Draw in the first pair of spikes. Let the inner lines start at the eye corners and go down touching the snout's side. Then they disappear behind the arms and reach all the way to the level of the legs at the bottom.
Draw the outer line running almost parallel to the inner one, but let them slowly come together closer and closer until they meet in the spike's tip.
Make the spikes fairly broad.

The second spike pair is largely hidden behind the first one. Just draw another line running closely along the first spikes. The end of one spike is hidden behind the hand, but take care to draw in the other one.
Then connect the outer spike pair to the circle's top with curved lines. Through this the head becomes a bit broader.

Now you can erase the circle's lines inside the head.
Afterwards, draw the last pair of spikes below the arms. Make these a bit shorter than the other ones.

Then erase the separating line between arms and torso, and draw this half-moon shape on Knuckles's chest.

How to Draw Hyper Knuckles - 4. Fist Details

Let's redraw the fists with more details now.
First, move your eraser over the old fist sketches, making them very faint.
Then work over the fists again as shown in the following steps.

Place the spiky knuckles as triangles on top of the fist in the end.

Now also redraw the other fist like this:

And again, the knuckles come in the end.
Also draw a fold into the glove around the wrist.

How to Draw Hyper Knuckles - 5. Shoe Details

The last thing left to detail are Hyper Knuckles's shoes.
They have a couple of rather complicated parts on them, so I split this up into many small steps.

On the shoe's top there is something like a slightly bend iron panel.
Erase a part of the shoe's upper line and then draw in this panel in the following steps:

When the panels are finished, erase the small part of the ring around the ankles which they hide from view now.

On top of each panel there are six small cylinders. First, we draw the top of these cylinders as ellipses. Arrange them in two rows, and let the upper row stand over the panel's edge a bit.

Now we complete the cylinders. In the middle I added a large version to show you how to do this again, but I guess you get it anyway.
Afterwards you can erase all lines that are hidden behind the cylinders.

Create a stripe at the shoes side with two curved, parallel lines.
Then draw a narrow outline along the bottom of the shoes. This is not yet the sole, but just the sole's upper side.
This becomes clear in the next steps.

Let a short, straight line go down from the sides of these outlines.

And then connect these short lines with a line running parallel to the upper outline. With that, the shoe soles and our entire drawing are complete.

Hyper Knuckles is ready to slash and smash!

If you want to color your picture, you can redraw Hyper Knuckles carefully with a black pen and then erase the pencil lines. Then you have clean borders. Of course, you can also color him right away, or simply leave your pencil drawing as it is, just as you prefer.
