How to Draw a Werewolf

Learn how to draw a vicious werewolf that is bathing in the light of the full moon.

The videos on this page will guide you through the process, from the first sketch to the final picture.

Step 1 - Basic Sketch

Start your drawing with a very simple outline of everything you want to include in the picture.
This is the stage of composition.
Leave all details aside and just take care that you give a dedicated place to each item.

(Make sure to watch full screen.)

Now draw a slightly more detailed version of your werewolf over the first outline.
It still doesn't have to look good now.
You just want to get a clearer image of its body on the paper.

How to Draw a Werewolf - Step 3

Take an eraser and clean up your sketchy lines.
Now you need a little bit of knowledge about anatomy and perspective to draw a good outline of the werewolf's body.
I try to point out everything of importance in the video.

If you draw on paper, I recommend that you get up once in a while and look at your picture in a mirror.
This will help you a lot to spot flaws in your drawing.
Since I use software, the mirroring is done by an image transformation, but it's basically the same.

I also changed the tail a little bit, and placed it slightly higher than before.
No big deal, but it didn't make it into the video.

How to Draw a Werewolf - Step 4

After looking over my last picture again, I realized that there was a contradiction between the positioning of the legs and the upper body.
The body was turned very much into our direction, while the legs were pointing to the side.
To solve this problem, I just changed the first leg and redrew it so that it also points into our direction.
If you think the legs are positioned good in your picture, you can leave them as they are, of course.
For underpants my werewolf gets a fur-patch in this video, and I also draw back the fur-strands on the tail.

How to Draw a Werewolf - Step 5

Now it is big clean-up and fine-tuning time.
Smooth all sketchy lines in your picture and add the final details to your werewolf.
Take your time in this step.
What you can watch as 5 minutes in the video actually took me about an hour.
So relax and work your way slowly towards the end result.

Step 6 - Coloring

Your werewolf is pretty much finished.
Now you can consider to color your werewolf drawing.
In this video you can see how I did it, and how I applied light and shadow to create a bit of a gloomy atmosphere.

I hope you enjoyed this drawing tutorial and that you were able to get something useful out of it.

I go back to howl at the moon now.
